This is how Bruce opened the show at the Spectrum, Philadelphia on December 9th 1980, the night after John Lennon was killed.
“If it wasn’t for John Lennon, we’d all be some place very different tonight. (…) It’s an unreasonable world and we get asked to live with a lot of things that are just unliveable. And it’s a hard thing to come out and play but there’s just nothing else we can do.”
The band then launched into a fierce “Born to Run”.
And all of a sudden, I love Bruce Springsteen. This was not the case before.
